  • Netflix vs Blockbuster

I am doing a little comparison of blockbuster vs. netflix. I have been with netflix for a while now, and I generally like it. The thing that I don’t is that they throttle the shipping for heavy users. The distribution center is in Santa Ana which is only 40 to 50 miles away. I used to get movies the next day and when I sent them back they would get them the next day. Now I sent 2 movies back Friday and I still haven’t gotten any back. I sent one in on Monday and another one won’t ship until tomorrow. This is unacceptable I am lucky to get 3 movies a week when I used to get at least 6.

So I signed up for a free month of Blockbuster. I will rate the two services on the number of movies I receive and availability of movies. From what I have seen so far netflix has way more movies in stock than blockbuster. From 10 movies I added to the queue 4 are short waits and 2 are long waits. In netflix I only have a handful of short and long waits out of 183 movies. Blockbuster does though seem to have a choice between wide and fullscreen version and also you can rent the bonus disc as well. This is very rare in netflix case but they usually carry only the wide screen version which is what I want anyways. The other advantage of blockbuster is the two free instore rental coupons each month. We will see though, I will give an update at the end of the month trial.

    Oscars

We tivoed the oscars last night and watched them. All I can say is I love tivo and Sean Penn is a jerk. I loved the fact that I could fast forward through the 50% of boring crap that is an award show. I mean for best origional song do you really have to play every single crappy song live and who really cares about costums and makeup. The program is long enough as it is. I mean they don’t show the whole movie for every best picture catagory. Chris Rock I though did a decent job and was fairly funny. Sean Penn though was the best. Like 2 and a half hours after Chris Rock make a joke about who the hell is Jude Law Sean had to tell Chris Rock that he was a great actor. You know Sean there is this lilltle thing called humor you might just want to get a sense of it.

    talking in movies

I should really see if I can raise the capital to open up a movie theater. My movies would cost about $2 more than average so like $9 for a early show and $11 for a night show. The difference and the draw will be the armed guard in every screening room. If someone is talking during the movie, say translating the entire freaking movie to someone, or repeating every other line to their deaf friend or talking on their cell phone in the movie, or letting their kid cry through an entire movie, or letting their kids run around the theater while the movie goes on these people would promptly be thrown the hell out. People have no freaking consideration these days. All they think about is themselves. I also would make a point to not sell childrens tickets to ANY movie with a PG-13 or R rating. If you want to get a kids discount take them to a freaking kids movie, don’t take them to an R rated horror movie because you are too damned cheap to get a baby sitter and expect a discount to tourture everyone else in the theater. I am betting I would have full theaters at my movie theater. Thank you
