Apple plugs PyMusique iTunes ‘hole’ | The Register

Apple has “pluged” the hole that allows PyMusique to purchase DRM free music from iTMS. They are forcing all users to upgrade to iTunes 4.7. 4.7 has been out for a while so I am guessing that all there is some handshake that identifies 4.7 clients, or hell it could just be a plan text identifier that says what version of the client it is. I really don’t have the time to investigate. Any ways I figure there will be a new version of PyMusique out by the end of the day that will get around this since they most likely didn’t change it to applying DRM server side. The best thing to do is write a little program that sniffs all the network traffic and reasembles the file sans DRM. That way you can use the real iTunes client. They are probably using SSL though for the data transfere which could cause problems. The private key is probably stored in memery somewhere though so it wouldn’t be impossible.
