advertisements on dvds

Advertisements are probably my biggest pet peeves. I especially hate it when you are help captive by advertisements in something that you paid money for and logistically should be able to avoid. DVDs are the worst at this. I pay $19.99 for some DVD only to be forced to watch advertisements for other DVD’s. What really really pisses me off is when they block the main menu button so you can’t just skip to the main menu. What really really really pisses me off is when they block the chapter skip and main menu buttons so you have to manually fast forward like its 1996 and you have a VHS tape. I haven’t come across any that block fast forward which makes me think that it may not be possible to limit fast forwarding since I know some bastard studio would do it. I wish it wasn’t such a pain in the butt to remove the commercials when you back up a DVD. Its a tedious process. First you have to decrypt and rip the movie to your hard drive with something like DVD decryptor, then you have to use VOB blanker and insert a blank VOB file for the commercial, then you have to use something like DVD shrink to encode it all to fit on a single layer disc. All in all like 4 or 5 hours at least. Not worth it.
