I received the VoIP telephone adapter today and set it all up. It was pretty painless, of course I also am a Network Administrator with a computer science degree. For the normal user it would have sucked. The complication is my wireless router, which I don’t need any more since the TA does the routing, PPPoE connection and DHCP, so in effect my wireless router is just a switch now. I just unplugged the wan port, turned off DHCP server and configured the WAN port to be a static of another private address so it won’t ever try to route. I then set up port forwarding on my TA so my web server is available. I haven’t made any lengthy phone call yet but the test calls I have made sound great and being able to get my voice mail at any computer is pretty cool.
